I had the pleasure of reading the debut book Cruel and Careless by the new author and trust me when I say this is not one you want to sleep on. A new adult standalone MM romance with darker themes that tugs at your gut and focuses on situations that I think the majority of us can relate to in one way or another if not the entire premise. The vibes of this book as I can best sum it up is the movie Thirteen but older and MM.Ben & Damon. My babies. My broken, beaten down boys by this thing we call life. Two men that have been dealt with bad hands in the game of poker (LIFE) and who dull the monotony of their existence by chasing the next high. When you come from nothing you believe you are nothing, you’ll never escape this vicious cycle that you’re stuck in. Born Poor, Stay Poor. School doesn’t matter. Work doesn’t matter. Making it out doesn’t matter. Party with your friends, flirt with the boy, chase the highs before you inevitably come down. A merry-go-round of bad stuff until rock bottom.How long will it take before you hit it? Will you survive? Will you change the course of your sad existence?The world and all who are in it are Cruel and Careless. This debut by Author Bailey Nicole blew my mind. Damon and Ben are raw and real and both a bit broken and each have their own struggles to deal with and go through but going through them together makes life a bit better. Their story was told in such an amazing way the author gave us the nitty gritty when it came to the struggles and truths of addiction. Anything worth fighting for is going to be a roller coaster ride, messy AF but when you reach the top it is beautiful and that is exactly how I would describe Damon and Ben’s story. There are some fantastic secondary characters and I really hope we get to see more from them. This was such a great debut and I really cant wait to see where this author will be taking us next. If you are looking for your next MM read then this one is an absolute must. There is nothing that melts my little black heart more then two broken boys finding their way not only individually but together and working their butts off for their HEA.
