Ebook About
An instant New York Times bestseller!New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh returns to a world devastated by change in her award-winning Psy-Changeling Trinity series, where two people defined by their aloneness hold the fate of the Psy in their hands. . . . Termed merciless by some, and a robotic sociopath by others, Payal Rao is the perfect Psy: cardinal telekinetic, CEO of a major conglomerate, beautiful—and emotionless. For Canto Mercant, family and loyalty are everything. A cardinal telepath deemed “imperfect” by his race due to a spinal injury, Canto cares for the opinions of very few—and ruthlessly protects those he claims as his own. Head of intel for the influential Mercant family, he prefers to remain a shadow in the Net, unknown and unseen. But Canto is also an anchor, part of a secretive designation whose task it is to stabilize the PsyNet. Now that critical psychic network is dying, threatening to collapse and kill the entire Psy race with it.To save those he loves, Canto needs the help of a woman bound to him by a dark past neither has been able to forget. A woman who is the most powerful anchor of them all: Payal Rao. Neither is ready for the violent inferno about to ignite in the PsyNet . . . or the passionate madness that threatens to destroy them both.

Book Last Guard (Psy-Changeling Trinity Book 5) Review :

I read the excerpts. I liked what I read, but the book fell flat for me. 14 dollars is a lot to spend on a book that is so-so. My favorite parts of this book were the bears. There was not enough of them in it. The Trinity series is jumping all over the place. In the first series, you knew who was going to get books, and you looked forward to them. You knew at least one person really well. As the series built, you learned about designations over the course of several books. In this book, we got new leads, and a lot of information on the anchor designation, given in all at once. It made for a difficult read. There are a lot of holes that don’t make sense. The fact that Kaleb did not know about the substrates did not make sense. The fact that they don’t even know about the architect after many books about her, does not make sense. The fact that anchors where not all destroyed does not make sense. The psy destroyed sick children. The fact that Canto did not use his telepath powers for going in the offensive at the end does not make sense. It in I find the psy with psy books more difficult to connect with. For me, the heart of the series is in the packs with the changelings. One of the most touching scenes in the book was with Canto and a baby bear. I am amazed that Nalini Singh does not capitalize on the bears popularity and do an a series arc in den home. Honestly, with the popularity of Silver Silence, I think books based in den home would be smash hits.
Better than Selenka's story but not by much. As I've mentioned before I'm not a fan of the trinity spin off in this world. Each book seems disjointed or random and features a whole new slew of characters. Each. Time. We know Russia. We know the wolves and the bears. Give us time to grow and love these characters before throwing in a whole new segment of people we dont have reason to care about. The good moments for me were the glimpses of Valentin, the bears, Kaleb and Silver. Not enough though. The Mercants are a great family and side character in itself as a whole entity. Really love Arwen and his bear boyfriend :)this story features new characters who we barely know. Cardinal Telepath Canto and Cardinal Telekinetic Payal. This means they're both at the top of the Psy chain. Which brings me to a big question in this. Let me start with Canto being wheel chair bound. I know the author goes thru great detail to explain how it occurred but it really knocked against the lore of the Psy in which they have perfected genetics and eliminate children/infants immediately who dont fit their high standards. Canto not being destroyed long before being saved seemed a stretch. But he's survived thanks to Ena Mercant (adore her) Next we hear about how independent Canto is and how he trained on using a weapon to be an expert. The weapon...a projectile gun. In a society that has gotten away from weapons because their minds are actual weapons!! Why did Canto need a gun when he's a cardinal? He's a cardinal Telepath at that, which means he can crush an enemy's mind like a grape in an instant. Kaleb has proved this to be easy and has crushed brains throughout the series. Even at the end when the villain comes to get Canto, he doesnt use his cardinal abilities, he shoots him :/The romance is there but absent minded while Singh inundates us with new world building, new characters and so much info dump, I started to skim out of boredom. This may be why the Trinity isnt good to me. The plot has been stretched and rewritten in a way thats not always plausible. First it was the fall of silence, then the fall of the Council, then the psy net became nascent (loved all of this) Then we get the net mind, then dark mind and the good mine (meh). In this book we are on to the Substrate. The psynet has broken into so many sections its unrealistic that none of these Psy knew of its existence and variables. (but secret journals fix that!)Also groups keep springing up and wanting a voice when they could all be lumped under one group. I get the Human Alliance led by Dev. I get the Changelings having a voice. Then Kaleb is supposed to be the Psy rep? We also have the Empath association (more psy basically) led by Ivy and NOW we get the anchor hubs (psy people) led by Payal. Its too much. The book was longer than it needed to be, lacked passion, had a lackluster romance between two characters who had no chemistry and who's actions didnt make sense. I have no idea why we're now going on to the psy net mutating infants and giving them cancers and tumors when we were told disease was eradicated. We're to believe that the dark mind created diseases in anchors because??? I don't know. A lot of this just didnt resonate for me. Anchors are basically empaths who help hold the psy net together but are more stressed out because they've lived life in the shadows and most of them die because the psynet which needs anchors gives them deadly tumors instead of the rainbows it gives empaths :/
